![]() ![]() Do casinos have a duty to refuse money from gamblers, or do gamblers have a responsibility to control their own spending? It is also unclear how far courts should become involved in casino business practices. Similar court hearings elsewhere have ruled that casinos do not in fact have a responsibility to babysit players. The case is now being heard in Indiana’s Supreme Court. Kephart claimed that the casino pampered her with food, limo rides, and free lodging, apparently because they knew that she was a problem gambler, and that she had just inherited $1 million. The casino, says Kephart, had a responsibility to not prey on players they know to have gambling problems. The woman turned the tables with a countersuit, claiming that the casino is to blame and offering a very unusual argument. Kephart failed to pay her debt, and the casino sued. ![]() Back in March of 2006, an American woman by the name of Jenny Kephart lost $125,000 at the blackjack tables in the Harrison County Riverboat Casino (now known as the Horseshoe Southern Indiana). ![]()
